Captain’s Cove residents create POA petition

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. – In a quiet Accomack County community, residents are making noise.

500 residents in the Captain’s Cove development have signed a petition created by Gini Weslowski and Linda Reece, two concerned citizens who said they want to see an administrative change in the Property Owner Association board of directors.

“We had this election, and nearly every single due paying member voted for the non-developer candidates to be on the board, but they won anyway,” said Gini.

In September of 2024, Captains Cove held its board of director’s election. Gini was on the ballot, but said because of the voting structure, she lost the race.

“For the dues paying members, I got 1,188 votes out of 1,200. The developer won the election, anyway, because he had more votes,” said Gini. “He was given three votes for every lot he owns, so we had no chance, really.”

Three of the seven POA board seats are held by members from CCG Note LLC., while three others live in the community, and two own lots in Captain’s Cove. The two hope the petition will get the attention of Virginia lawmakers, for new laws to be created to protect POA residents like themselves.

“We’ll continue to speak out, and we’ll continue to do whatever we have to do to get our community back,” Linda added.
