Cambridge Suspending Utility Disconnections for Two Weeks amid Government Shutdown
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – City of Cambridge leaders announced on Tuesday that utility disconnections will be suspended for two weeks amid the federal government shutdown.
“In this time of national uncertainty, it is important that we take action at the city level to provide stability and reassurance for our residents,” said Mayor LaJan Cephas Bey.
City Manager Glenn Steckman says the pause on disconnections seeks to “support families in this time of turmoil,” but stressed that the pause is a temporary suspension. Utility bills will not be forgiven during this time.
The City directs those who need additional support or have special circumstances to contact Steckman after Oct. 29 at City Hall.
