Bethany Beach, Dewey Beach Arrest West Virginia Man for Hit & Run
BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Bethany Beach and Dewey Beach police departments have arrested a man from West Virginia in connection with a hit and run that took place on Sunday.
At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Oct. 12, Bethany Beach police officers responded to the area of Route 1 and Parkwood Street following reports of a hit and run. Upon arrival on the scene, officers contacted witnesses who reported observing a pickup truck with West Virginia plates strike a light pole and several street signs along the median. The truck failed to remain on scene, instead continuing on Route 1. Officers subsequently put out an alert to surrounding agencies.
The Dewey Beach Police Department later located the vehicle in their jurisdiction, after it was involved in another motor vehicle collision. The driver of the pickup, identified as 42-year-old Mark Beddow, was ultimately placed under arrest by Dewey police for criminal and traffic related charges. Beddow and a passenger in his vehicle were both taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. Before being discharged from the hospital, Bethany Beach police responded to the hospital to confirm signs of impairment and complete a DUI investigation.
Beddow was charged with first degree reckless endangerment, third degree vehicular assault, and driving under the influence amidst other charges. He was arraigned and released on an unsecure bond.
Beddow faces criminal charges by both the Bethany Beach Police and the Dewey Beach Police Department.
