Ocean City Businesses Talk Impact of Oceans’ Calling

(OCEAN CITY, Md) – If you were out on the beach in Ocean City this weekend, then you got to take part in one last economic boost for the town for the season as part of the annual Oceans’ Calling Concert.

Cory Odeair from Reading, Pennsylvania was just one of 50-thousand spectators in on excitement at Oceans’ Calling on the beach this weekend.

“It was crazy. Especially when they all come here. Like, I mean, it’s just all right. There is a lot of great artists that come together is like I mean, I haven’t seen Nelly ever, so it’s like to be able to check that one off is pretty cool,” says Cory.

While the summer season is officially over, Oceans’ Calling is one of the last economic shots in the arm for the coastal community.

Tom Perlozzo, the Ocean City Tourism Director says, “..Heads in beds, people in our restaurants. It’s around $150 billion of economic impact for our town. It is a great boost to get us through the winter season. And hey, this weekend we’ve got another one. So we’re excited to have Country Calling…”

For boardwalk business owners like Cengizhan Unao at Paisano’s Pizza just steps away from Oceans’ Calling, this was one of their best weekends.

He says, “It’s a great weekend for business. It’s I mean, we’re fortunate enough to be in a good spot and it’s really good for business.”

But they aren’t done on the boardwalk for the year yet.

“…Going off of what we experienced this weekend. We’re going to make preparations for the following weekend and act accordingly,” says Unao.

Crews were hard at work after the concert Sunday night to have the boardwalk open to the public again by this morning.
