Multiple Car Crashes Under Investigation in Worcester County

Worcester Sherrfi WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Maryland State Police (MSP) are investigating three serious separate motor vehicle crashes that occurred in various parts of Worcester County this afternoon.

The first crash occurred in Bishopville at Route 113 and Hammond Road around 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. The crash involved a tractor-trailer and at least one passenger vehicle. One patient was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, and another patient was airlifted off the scene by MSP.

A second crash occurred in Berlin on Westbound Route 50 at Whaleyville Road. It was reported that a serious crash took place involving multiple injuries. Delaware State Police assisted in airlifting at least one patient.

A third and fatal crash occurred in Whaleyville at the intersection of Westbound Route 50 and Hall Road. A preliminary investigation revealed the victim’s car was stopped in the road due to traffic backup from a separate crash. The victim’s car was then hit from behind by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, pushing the victim’s vehicle into the car in front of him. 56-year-old David Ingram Stegenga II from Salisbury was pronounced dead on the scene, following attempted CPR. Another passenger sustained a shoulder injury.
