MDOT Statewide Tour Stops in Dorchester Co.
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The Maryland Department of Transportation has been visiting communities across the state, stopping in Dorchester County last night.
The Maryland Department of Transportation is running through their state one investment tour. And one of the stops is right here in Dorchester County where they discuss some community investments with the county council, Tuesday night.
Acting Maryland Transportation Secretary, Amanda Biddle met with members of the Dorchester County Council Tuesday evening as part of their statewide investment tour, highlighting initiatives that started in Dorchester County in 2024.
Biddle tells us, “Last year when we were here, we’re talking about a paving project which has since been completed. We talk today about a drainage project at World’s End (Creek), which we know has been impacting communities and talked about the potential detour that we’re going to be implementing next summer to get that work done when school is not in session.”
The Department of Transportation is drafting policy for their Consolidated Transportation Program.
“For us to maintain our roads to the highest state of readiness is a real problem. So while they have state money to do their projects, we’re still looking to the General Assembly and the governor to help the counties increase the highway user revenues,” says Dorchester County Council President, Lenny Pfeffer.
In Dorchester County, over $870 thousand dollars is going to local transit operations, supporting work on evacuation routes and against flooding, as well as combating reckless driving.
“There’s no one size fits all solution. It really involves partnership and looking at many components of how we can address safety through different factors. So the factor that we are going to be implementing here is an infrastructure solution,” says Biddle.
This was just one stop of a statewide tour in which officials are visiting several counties, including Caroline and Talbot Counties on the Eastern Shore.
