Lewes Police Find Weapons Stored in Truck Stuck on Beach
LEWES, Del. – The Lewes Police Department found several weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in a truck that was stuck in the sand on Lewes Beach on Tuesday morning.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 23, police responded to a report of a Ford Ranger pick-up truck stuck in the sand and located near to the water. Upon arrival, officers located the truck in question bottomed out in the sand and abandoned.
Police discovered five weapons inside of the vehicle, comprised of three handguns, a shotgun, and an assault-style rifle. They also recovered “hundreds of rounds of ammunition.”
The truck was found to be registered to a man from Maryland, and Lewes Police say that he has been taken into custody at this time.
The Cape Henlopen School District, Beebe Hospital and University of Delaware were notified of the situation. As a result, the Cape Henlopen School District put three of their schools under a “secure status.”
An investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
