Inmate charged with first-degree murder in Eastern Correctional Institution death
WESTOVER, Md. – Maryland State Police say an inmate at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Somerset County is being charged with first-degree murder following an investigation into the death of another inmate earlier this year.
26-year-old Tyjuan Chapple has been identified as the accused. He was served an arrest warrant Wednesday and remains in custody of the Maryland Division of Corrections.
On July 25th, MSP Homicide investigators presented the facts of the case before the Somerset County Grand Jury and the investigation resulted in the indictment of Chapple.
The incident happened back in March when authorities were notified of the death of 28-year-old Shane Lanham.
The preliminary investigation indicates Lanham was in a cell with another inmate prior to being found lying on the ground and unresponsive by officers at ECI.
