Four Arrested following Police Pursuit in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) have arrested four men in connection with a police chase of dirt bikes that took place last Wednesday.

At approximately 3:43 p.m. on Sept. 10, patrol officers observed five dirt bikes driving recklessly in the area of Washington Street and Foxtail Drive. The drivers were not wearing helmets and were conducting wheelies down the roadway. Upon initiating a traffic stop, the bikes sped away down Greenwood Avenue, where they reportedly blew through stop signs and swerved in and out of traffic to evade police. Deputies from Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office (DSO) joined CPD officers in an attempt to stop the bikes.

In the area of Route 16 and Race Street, one of the riders fell off their dirt bike, left it behind, and got onto another dirt bike and continued to flee. Officers recovered the abandoned dirt bike.

Information relayed to the officers indicated that the riders were loading the bikes into the back of a U-Haul van in the area of Christ Rock off of Dailsville Road. CPD deployed a drone to the area to confirm the suspects’ location. When CPD officers arrived on scene, they immediately saw one of the suspects fleeing on foot. He was pursued and apprehended in a nearby field.

Other CPD officers and DSO deputies located a second subject hiding in the back of the U-Haul with two more dirt bikes. The second subject was arrested and the dirt bikes were recovered and seized. While in this area, the last two dirt bikes returned to the area where traffic stops were attempted unsuccessfully once again. CPD and DSO were able to coordinate and get one of the dirt bikes stopped and place a third subject under arrest. The last dirt bike fled from officers down a dirt driveway off of Route 16.

A short time later, DSO received a call for a suspicious person approaching houses on Aireys Road. CPD Officers responded to the area to assist DSO where they were able to positively identify the subject as being involved in the fleeing. The fourth suspect was taken into custody, and police recovered a fifth dirt bike.

The suspects arrested have been identified as 24-year-old Willie Frank Jones of Salisbury, 22-year-old Malik Javon Johnson of Princess Anne, 20-year-old Malik Lloyd Westcarth from Salisbury, and 21-year-old Joshua Montalvo from Salisbury. All four had an initial appearance before a Court Commissioner and were later released on their personal recognizance. They face a litany of charges, including driving uninsured and without licenses, and eluding police.
