Foodie Friday: Sticky Rice
LEWES, Del. – It doesn’t get more authentic than Sticky rice in Lewes.
Owner Sawanya Conway is from Thailand and knows a thing or two about making the freshest, most flavorful Thai dishes. She started with her shrimp spring rolls, packed with cilantro, basil leaves and a whole lot of herbs.
Then she made WMDT’s Leila Weah her creamy green curry with chicken, a perfect blend of coconut milk, curry paste and spices.
“Everything is shrimp themed today, so we have a shrimp spring roll, golden shrimp and then a shrimp wanton as well. We’re going to start out with this shrimp spring roll,” Leila said, before she took a bite.
“That was delicious; that sweet and sour sauce sets it off so beautifully, it balances it out. There’s some basil in here, and then you have the perfect amount of protein in the spring roll,” Leila said, nodding and smiling.
Now for the main entree.
“This is so authentic and warm and cozy and I love that eggplant in there,” Leila said, grabbing a big scoop of curry and rice . “It’s such a nice touch. You don’t really see curry with eggplant, you usually see it with peppers and vegetables like that. It’s so good.”
If you thought that was all, think again. Ms. Sawanya always has a trick up her sleeve, and for this one, she got Leila right in her sweet spot.
“This mango sticky rice is the perfect way to finish off your meal, here, at this restaurant,” said Leila. “After you had a nice hearty bowl of curry, you had some Thai tee on the side, and then Ms. Sawanya brings you out a little bit of this? Chefs kiss.”
