Communities Prepare for 9/11 Memorial Ceremonies

(EASTON, Md) – Whether you’re in Ocean City or here in Talbot county, communities across the Eastern Shore are coming together to honor those who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks, 24 years ago.

Those we spoke to brought up their personal memories of where they were when the attacks happened in 2001.

Salisbury Fire Chief, Rob Frampton remembers it happening during training. Saying, “I mean, I remember coming from that training, coming back, and we immediately staff the stations because nobody really knew what was going on. And, you know, there was a lot of a lot of sitting around watching the news, wondering what was going on and trying to stay up to date. And we back staffed all the stations…”

“When I think about 9/11, I was in kindergarten. So we’re getting to the age where a lot of people growing up don’t even have that, like firsthand experience of remembering 9/11. So that’s why it’s even more important that we do events like this.,” says Talbot County’s Public Information Officer, Sarah Kilmon.

That’s why communities are preparing to hold their memorial services the morning of the 11th.

From Ocean City’s service on the boardwalk ,to Talbot County’s at their town memorial in Easton, to the service being held by the Salisbury Fire Department Thursday morning.

“That day, change the fire service in a lot of different ways. And, you know, we just continue to build upon that each and every day and make sure that the youth that are coming through the fire service, getting their start are the ones that are, you know, we’re really making sure that they’re aware,” says Chief Frampton.

And on a day of remembrance, it’s a day to bring the community together to remember those taken too soon.

Sarah says, “We incorporate a lot of the local individuals, such as our school system, our religious community, as well as, of course, our emergency services, fire dispatch, police to recognize the work that they have done, not only on that day, but since then.”

The Salisbury Fire Department will be holding their ceremony Thursday morning at 9 A.M. at Fire Station 16 at 325 Cypress Street in Salisbury.

The Talbot County community will be holding their 9/11 Ceremony Thursday at 8:30 A.M. at their First Responder Memorial across from the Easton Branch of the Talbot County Library at 100 West Dover Street.

Ocean City will run from 8:46 A.M. to 10:28 A.M at the Firefighter’s Memorial on the Boardwalk on North Division Street.
