After the Whistle: Seaford’s Vincent Evans III
SEAFORD, Del. – “Sometimes you just gotta think like, it’s really just a game.”
Saying, ‘it’s just a game’ helps ease the pressure for Seaford’s three-sport star Vincent Evans III, but the ‘games’ still mean everything, with the Blue Jays’ starting quarterback trying to help lay the foundation of a winning culture under new head coach Glenn Phillips.
“That’d be everything to come out here and win a championship before I go off to college and play a different sport,” Evans said, “Like a lot of people are going to come out here and watch Seaford football. Especially after I leave, because with Coach Glenn, and a lot of freshmen and sophomores and juniors, they’ll be very good next year.”
Among all his talents, Evans decided to pursue baseball. As a left-handed pitcher with a fastball breaching the 90s, he’s committed to play at Division 1 Presbyterian College. “If I can keep consistently doing that and working hard, I can possibly get a job to become a major League Baseball player,” Evans said of his pitching prowess. “And that’s always been my dream, to play professional–It didn’t matter where–but professional. And I feel like my best shot to play professional is baseball.”
With baseball in his future, Evans has still set his sights high across all his sports in his senior year.
“I could be first team [all-conference] quarterback, first team point guard, first team outfielder, first team pitcher…It’s so many goals to accomplish if I really work hard.”
Playing three sports, Evans doesn’t get much time off. He sees his hard work not just as an investment in himself, but in all of Seaford: “I feel like I’m definitely a role model…It’s cool to see to see the kids, like the 8th graders and middle schoolers, say like, ‘Oh he’s doing that, so I’m doing it.’ It just helps the community.”
