A new honorary deputy in Wicomico County
SALISBURY, Md. — On Wednesday, Wicomico County sheriff’s deputies will travel to Charleston, South Carolina, for the National Interdiction Conference.
You may remember 13-year-old D.J. Daniel, who is dying of brain cancer and was given six months to live. His dream is to become a police officer, and he has been traveling nationwide for months, getting sworn in at various departments. Wicomico County is next on that list, and the honor will take place at the conference.
Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis said, “He’s traveling the country now with his father, going to law enforcement conferences and police departments, being sworn in because he loves law enforcement. He wants to be a police officer when he becomes an adult. So we’re obviously trying to make his wish come true. And we’re going to be there next week to accommodate him and make D.J. an honorary Wicomico County sheriff’s deputy.”
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office vehicles will also have special license plates to honor D.J. Daniel.
