9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Planned at Fire Station 16

Station 16

SALISBURY, Md. – The City of Salisbury announced that it will be hosting a remembrance ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 9:00 a.m. at Fire Station 16 to honor the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“Certainly, 9/11 stands alone in our history as a day of loss. Standing together in honor of that day offers both healing and a salute to all who lost their lives. As Mayor, I am proud to pay my respects along with the staff and citizens of Salisbury,” said Mayor Randy Taylor in a statement.

The solemn ceremony will last approximately 30 minutes and include remarks from City officials, the posting and retrieval of colors by a combined Police and Fire Honor Guard, a bagpipe performance of “Amazing Grace”, and the traditional ringing of the bell in the 5-5-5 sequence, symbolizing a fallen firefighter’s last call.

“We invite all community leaders and public safety personnel to join us in a moment of solemn reflection as we honor the lives lost and the heroes of that tragic day,” said Salisbury Fire Chief Rob Frampton.

The ceremony will take place at the station’s flagpole and bell area. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held inside the station’s engine bays. All members of the community are invited to attend and join in remembrance.
