19-Year-Old Arrested for DUI After Causing Serious Accident

Jayden Waters

GREENWOOD, Del. – Delaware State Police (DSP) have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with a head-on collision that occurred on Friday night.

At approximately 11:05 p.m. on Sept. 26, troopers responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on Seashore Highway near Adamsville Road. A preliminary investigation revealed that a GMC pick-up was traveling westbound, attempting to pass two tractor-trailers. At the same time, a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound on the same road. As a result, the GMC struck the Tahoe head-on.

When troopers arrived, they contacted Jayden Waters of Delmar, Maryland, identified as the driver of a GMC pick-up truck. While speaking to him, troopers smelled an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Waters was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Tahoe was traveling with five passengers, including three children. The driver of the Tahoe, a 43-year-old man from Georgetown, and a 13-year-old passenger, were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Another passenger, a 40-year old woman, also from Georgetown, was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released.

After being released from the hospital, Waters was arrested and taken to DSP Troop 5. He was charged with first and second degree vehicular assault and driving under the influence, and released after posting a $4,501 secured bond.

This crash was the second DUI-related crash in Greenwood in the span of less than one hour on Friday.
