Wicomico Council Prohibits Out-of-County Trash
SALISBURY, Md. — The Wicomico County Council is prohibiting out-of-county waste at its Newland Park Landfill and convenience centers.
Officials are also preserving the existing hours of operation at all sites.
Part of County Executive Julie Giordano’s plan to begin phasing out landfill access for commercial haulers on August 1, 2025, and to possibly close convenience centers, the County Council believes such major changes should not be made without the public’s input.
By passing this legislation, the County Council is ensuring that its residents continue to have reliable access to solid waste facilities, and that decisions about reducing services are made only with public involvement.
The legislation establishes fines and penalties for violations, including suspensions of facility access for repeat offenders.
