Rabies Confirmed in Berlin

BERLIN, Md. — A confirmed rabid raccoon has been found in the vicinity of Williams Street in Berlin.

The Worcester County Health Department is urging anyone whose family members or pets may have had contact with the rabid raccoon to contact its Office of Environmental Health immediately at 410-352-3234. Contact constitutes bites, scratches or other direct contact. People should not handle their own pets if those pets came in contact with the rabid raccoon.

Residents should immediately report sick animals or animals acting in an unusual manner, as there may or will be additional rabid animals in the Williams Street area. Do not attempt to capture the animal. Call Animal Control or the local police or Sheriff’s Office.

Worcester County health officials strongly urge all pet owners to make sure their pets have current rabies vaccinations, refrain from letting pets roam free or leave food outdoors.
