Grant funding to help SFD enhance opioid response

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Fire Department is getting a boost from the state in the form of some major grant funding.

The over $80k in funds will help the department enhance its opioid crisis response efforts.

Deputy Chief of Administration, Chris Truitt said they plan to use the grant money to expand the Salisbury Wicomico Integrated First Care Team, by offering more days of SWIFT response, to help meet people in need where they are.

“The future goal is obviously to expand,” said Truitt. “We would love to be able to provide this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but where things are grant funded now, it’s very tricky to get certain times covered.”

But that’s only the beginning. Truitt said part of the money will also go towards a Geographic Information System, which will help them better respond to opioid crises.

“Another thing that we’re going to use some of this grant funding for is using GIS to kind of pin point where needed areas are, and kind of track where things are working,” said Truitt.
