Foodie Friday: Thai Tee

SELBYVILLE, Del. – Mrs. Tee, owner of Thai Tee, is a bona fide Thai chef through and through.

She and her husband’s food truck sits right off of Church Street in Selbyville. The truck itself may look small, but on the inside, there’s a whole Thai kitchen food operation going on.

“This is definitely a hidden gem because it’s not a standalone restaurant, it’s actually a food truck, so we went with kind of a nontraditional way for foodie,” WMDT’s Leila Weah said.

Tee hooked Leila up with their spring rolls, two different versions of their Thai stir fry and of course, some Thai tea.

“Let’s first start out with the appetizer of the group,” Leila said. “That has a really good crunch to it; it’s nice and light, not too overpowering. They’re smaller portions, but they give you a lot of the spring rolls.”

Thai food can be very spicy, but Tee wanted to gradually ease Leila into the heat. She first tried the mild stir fry.

“We have all of these fresh vegetables in here, we have zucchini, we have peppers, and we have broccoli. To give it that necessary sweet, we have pineapple chunks, and they doused this in their pineapple sauce,” Leila said.

“Pineapple is more firm, so once you get that crunch from the pineapple, it just bursts in your mouth, all those sweet flavors. It ties together, it enhances the flatness of the rice,” she added.

Now, bring on the heat.

“The sauce is definitely a darker red. I got spice level three and, in this bite, we’re going to get some pineapple and tomato with it,” said Leila.

“That’s definitely spicier. I kind of want to know what a five would’ve been like, because that definitely has a kick to it. It’s not a bad kick, but I can definitely tell the difference between the mild one and this one,” she added.

If you like your meals on the more mild side, or if you’re adventurous, and want to take your taste buds to the wild side, check out Thai Tee in Selbyville, located at 14 West Church Street. If you visit them, make sure to tell them you saw them on Foodie Friday.
