DSP investigating fatal hit-and-run near Felton

FELTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash earlier this month that left a pedestrian dead in Kent County.

Police said the crash happened around 9:19 p.m. on Aug. 1, when a Ford Transit van traveling west on Sandtown Road struck a pedestrian walking in the same lane east of John Hurd Road. The driver did not stop and continued westbound.

The pedestrian, identified as 24-year-old Evan Young of Centreville, Maryland, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died Aug. 16.

On Aug. 2, investigators located the van and identified the driver as a 42-year-old man from Ellendale. Police said charges are pending as the Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate.
