Diakonia receives MASSIVE fish donations from Mid-Atlantic fishing tournament

OCEAN CITY, Md. – It was the summer of fishing tournaments, with many recently wrapped up. The weather, though, put a damper on anglers looking to hook in the big fish.

Regardless, homeless shelter, Diakonia was able to help locals in need with some catches.

An 800-pound blue marlin was donated to the organization from the Mid-Atlantic Fishing Tournament.

The huge fish will last the food pantry around 2 weeks.

Diakonia’s Community Coordinator, Susan Blaney, is incredibly appreciative of the community’s efforts. She said, the unhoused are happy to have other food besides chicken.

“We didn’t expect a lot of fish, and when we received the phone call from Sunset Marina, Provisions to come and pick up the 800-pound blue marlin, we were super excited.”

Diakonia was also donated a 500-pound blue marlin from Sunset Provisions,  Saturday. It wouldn’t have been possible without the Mid-Atlantic Tournament extending competition another day. The tournament provided the most donations for Diakonia this year.
