Delaware finishes as World Series runner-up in loss to Central

ROXANA, Del. – Delaware fell to Central 10-0 in five innings in the Senior League World Series championship in Roxana on Sunday.

Central opened the scoring immediately, putting three runs on the board in the top of the first.

The team from Grand Blanc, Michigan kept up the offense in the second, doubling their lead with a three-run shot from Adysen Freeman who finished the game with six RBI.

With the score 6-0 in Central’s favor, Lyla Turmell went deep for a solo home run to make it 7-0 in the top of the third.

Central would score three more runs in the top of the fourth to reach the 10-run threshold, and with Delaware unable to find enough offense, the game ended 10-0 after the fifth inning.

Central starting pitcher Kayla Blumenschein did not give up a hit in her five innings of work, allowing just four baserunners–three of them coming on batters hit by pitches–with one walk.

Central finishes as World Series Champions with a perfect 7-0 record, with runner-up Delaware’s District 3 All-Star’s 6-1 after their only loss of the tournament was issued in the final.

Delaware Manager Clint Lutz said after the game, “It was an amazing run. I mean, we won three close games and just battled. We hit the ball yesterday. We won in a lot of different ways. A lot of girls stepped up. Just a fun week all the way around.”
