Celebration of a Century! Milford woman celebrates 100th Birthday

MILTON, Del. – Here’s a story that is sure to warm your heart, a birthday of the century!

Pearl Cirwithian is a Native American woman of Milton, Delaware. Born a year after the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, a law that granted citizenship to Native Americans living in the United States, she has lived through all kinds of historical events and technological shifts.

She was barely a teenager at the start of World War II, and a young woman during the Civil Rights Movement. She was present for the first cassette tapes, computers, microwave ovens, and even sliced bread. She was over 60 when November was deemed Native American Heritage Month in 1990.

Ms. Pearl is the mother of 5 children, 18 grandchildren, and over 30 great-grandchildren! She is an avid reader and enjoys sewing and crafting in her free time. She maintains her health by continuing to do her housework and by tending and growing most of her food in her own garden.

During her younger days, she enjoyed going on road trips, train rides, and overall, just travelling to different places to see how they compared to the things she read or saw on TW.

August 5th marks 100 years that Ms. Pearl has been on this planet and says that faith and staying grateful has kept her going. Her granddaughter Brandi Maull wanted her to know she is loved and appreciated.
