Cambridge Family Looking for Answers Following Fire

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – In Cambridge, a family is having to start over after a fire destroyed their home Wednesday.

This fire happened just a little before ten-thirty Wednesday morning. When we arrived at the site on Race Street we were told this fire built up pretty quickly.

That family is now left looking for answers as they pick up the pieces.

Karlin Foote, her boyfriend and kids are left with nothing due to a porch fire swallowing much of their Cambridge home.

She says, “I’m in utter disbelief. I’m frustrated, I’m confused, I’m irritated, to say the least, because that was literally everything I own that got destroyed.”

Assistant Fire Chief Andrew McCarter says responders from Dorchester, Talbot, and Wicomico County were on the scene to help keep the fire in check.

It started on their porch and could’ve quickly gotten out of control.

Chief McCarter tells us, “Any time you have houses this close, it’s always a problem with radiant exposures. Thankfully, there was a very fast response from the rescue, fire company units and other jurisdictions to get fast water applied to it and limit it to the main portion of the house that was affected.”

Chief McCarter said investigators are still combing through evidence.

He says, “That exact cause is being investigated and I would not be able to elaborate on how it could. There’s a thousand possible causes.”

As for Karlin and her family, they’re left picking up the pieces, looking for anything to help rebuild their lives.

She says, “Honestly, I have no clue where I’m going to go from here. I know that I’ve got my grandmother that I can rely on with her place. But other than that, I don’t really have much of anywhere to go…Just keep us in. Your thoughts in any little bit helps.”

We spoke with Karlin off-camera as well about how she and her family are trying to bounce back from this tragedy.
She says they’re looking into starting a GoFundMe to cover the basic necessities, but it can’t replace the memories lost in their house.

The investigation into the fire is being handled by the Maryland Fire Marshal’s Office.
