Body of Missing New Church Man Found

ONANCOCK, Va. — The body of 22-year-old Miles Porter McIntyre, of New Church, Va., was found in the water early this morning, according to police.

Accomack County Sheriff W. Todd Wessells was called to assist the Onancock Police Department with a report of a missing person on Sunday, Aug. 3, at 12:54 p.m.

McIntyre was last seen walking into a gravel shipment point between Onancock Wharf and King Street around midnight Saturday, Aug. 2.

While searching the area, police found some of McIntyre’s personal effects near a bulkhead and a water search and rescue was initiated to compliment the ongoing ground search.

Water and ground searches ceased at about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, as police were unable to successfully find McIntyre.

At about 7:30 a.m. this morning, Aug. 4, police found a body in the water who was later identified as McIntyre. The body was transported to the Norfolk Medical Examiner’s Office to determine cause of death.
