After the Whistle: SU’s Aidan Brinsfield

SALISBURY, Md. –  “I think I can go out there and compete with the best of them.”

Aidan Brinsfield has been competing with the best of them for years. From a 12-strikeout complete game state championship performance for Parkside to becoming a workhorse starter for Salisbury University, the work never ends.

“[It’s] pretty much year-round, there’s not much break, but when there is a break, you use that to get here in the gym and work out. You’ve got to really love the game, and I do,” he said.

In 2025 Brinsfield led his team in strikeouts, with 67 across 13 starts: “Just attacking hitters, not being scared of anyone and always just believing in yourself that you’re better than that guy and you’re going to get him out. My command normally carries me a lot. Just commanding the strike zone. Outside, inside, up, down”

Through his first two seasons with the Seagulls, Brinsfield has yet to take an official loss on his record, a perfect 10-0 across 26 career appearances. He hesitates to take credit for his spotless record, saying, “My team helps me out a lot with our bats, backing me up with runs,” adding, “That’s not like something to get caught up on. I mean, the losses are going to come. But definitely every win is a good one.”

Approaching his junior season, Brinsfield has a specific personal milestone in mind. “I’d like to get my ERA (3.29 in 2025) probably under three. I know ERA is kind of like a stat that not everyone looks at nowadays, but it’s something that I see when I look at myself.”

But for a program with eight College World Series appearances and a national championship in 2021, the goal is always the same. “Our coach [Troy Brohawn] actually has a saying that he wants to be playing on the last day of the year. This year it was June 6th. We weren’t playing,” Brinsfield said. “We’ll talk about that in the fall. We’ll talk about it in the spring. And that’ll be the goal throughout the year.”
