30-year-old Tavon Tull reclaiming life after wrongful conviction
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – 30-year-old Tavon Tull lost more than 2,000 days of his life to the justice system, after he was wrongfully convicted of sexually abusing a 21-month-old girl, back in 2019.
He was hit with a 20-year sentence, but new evidence proved his innocence. His sister, Raven Tull said he was ostracized and often targeted while behind bars.
“He has been stabbed in prison, he has been targeted, as far as being jumped in prison behind this matter; he has been in altercations with different people regarding this matter,” said Raven.
Now that exoneration is his new reality, the almost six years Tavon served are being compensated by the state and Wicomico County, thanks to the Walter Lomax Act.
He’s receiving over $500,000, money that Raven said does not amount to the time lost but will help him start anew.
“I just don’t want him to stay in the same area that he was convicted. I just want to give him a new start,” said Raven.
With six years behind him, Raven said she and her brother are turning a new chapter and working to return to some sense of normalcy.
“The only thing I can really say is, I just hope we can put this nightmare behind us and just move forward,” said Raven.
