Wicomico County Prepares for Committee Split with Salisbury
(SALISBURY, Md) – Wicomico County is preparing for a split that will benefit both them and the city of Salisbury.
It was announced earlier this year that the county and the city would be splitting their joint Planning and Zoning Committees into two seperate groups.
Wicomico County Executive, Julie Giordano tells us that prior to this decision, Salisbury was one of the few Maryland cities which operated a joint committee with their home county.
And that this will be beneficial, especially for what the city of Salisbury has planned.
“I’m pretty sure they’re going to be fine. They have a new comprehensive plan that they’re going to be putting forward, and they really need city folks looking at those plans and approving those plans. There are many times in the Joint Planning Commission that the county doesn’t have any business. So we have staff that are working every single month on a lot of city projects,” says Giordano.
Giordano tells us there’s still some work to be done, mainly when it comes to appointees for Wicomico County.
she tells us they trying to make sure those who are applying to be appointed are going to the right groups.
She tells us, “We want to make sure we don’t want to leave anybody out in the dark. And I know the city of Salisbury just put out their applications of of interested candidates for their planning commission. We actually have our seven that will be put up. They have to be it’s an executive appointment, council confirmation. And so those will happen hopefully with at the next council meeting.”
Giordano tells us this split of the joint committee will not hold up any projects in Wicomico County.
