Western Sussex County Chamber of Commerce Breakfast

Sussex County, Del – Members of the Western Sussex County Chamber of Commerce gathered to discuss business and economic development.

The breakfast served as a wrap-up for the chamber, which presented a report on the outcome of the legislative session concerning Sussex County’s priorities. The session ran from January to June. Key topics included the budget, the bond bill, grant aid, and a one-time supplemental bill.

“People love the bond bill because it funds road repairs, bridges, schools, and grant aid for nonprofits, senior centers, fire departments, and other organizations across the state,” said Tim Dukes, state representative district 40 “These are the areas we want to ensure we continue investing in.”

Rep. Tim Dukes expressed passion to invest in companies and nonprofits that support the community. He added that those groups often take care of the most vulnerable citizens.

“We’re looking at a budget of $6.5 billion. That’s a lot of money. And it’s important to see how it’s divided to ensure people are taken care of in the end,” Dukes said.

Dukes also noted that the breakfast provided a valuable opportunity to discuss future legislation.

Another topic discussed was offshore wind. Some lawmakers emphasized the need for more local control over such large-scale projects.
