TidalHealth expands to Millsboro with new North Campus Facility
MILLSBORO, Del. – TidalHealth broke ground on its new Millsboro North Campus, which will be the largest outpatient facility in Sussex County to date. TidalHealth CEO and President Steven Leonard called the move a huge step forward.
“This is an investment in the eastern part of Sussex County and Millsboro,” Leonard said. “We’ve been looking forward to this, as most folks know it’s a fast-growing environment. And there are a lot of unmet needs.”
The transformative 150,000-square-foot healthcare complex will be located on the north side of the town. Millsboro Mayor Robert McKee expressed his support for the facility, noting that the town has faced challenges with healthcare access for years.
“One of the things we were lacking in the center of our community was healthcare,” McKee said.
The new facility is particularly essential due to the rapid growth of Sussex County. The county’s population has increased by nearly 20%, surpassing 250,000 residents. Leonard said the project has been in the works for some time, but now is the ideal moment to break ground.
“There are some struggles in primary care and specialty care access, and we’re excited to expand what we’re already doing on the south side of town, now for Millsboro and surrounding communities,” Leonard said.
The campus will include three buildings. The initial structure will house the TidalHealth pharmacy and specialty care offices. The second building will be a functional ambulatory surgery center. The third building is still in the planning phase.
Leonard described the facility as the largest of TidalHealth’s branches on Delmarva. “This alone will be our largest center of primary care for all of TidalHealth,” he said.
The facility’s design will function similarly to a hospital, but without inpatient beds. Patients in need of advanced care will be referred to TidalHealth campuses in Seaford or Salisbury.
Currently, the structure will take 18-24 months to complete.
