The Allen Volunteer Fire Company has a new engine!
Wicomico County, Md. – The Allen Volunteer Fire Company has a new piece of equipment.
Allen Volunteer Fire Company Chief Sarah Townsend shared how excited the team was to receive its new fire engine.
“We were just really excited to have it. It’s going to do well for us. And as you can see, we’ve got lime green. Our tools are even lime green. We did that a little different because we like being a little different,” she said.
That’s not the only thing that makes the new fire engine special. The truck has been used by two other local fire departments before making its way to Allen. The company gave the engine a tune up.
“We also just purchased our rescue tools—brand new rescue tools that are cordless to make it quicker and easier to help get anybody who’s trapped out quicker. It makes it a lot easier,” Townsend said.
Townsend isn’t the only one who is grateful. Emergency medical workers said it’s a major upgrade. Wayne Norman and Christopher Cossell commented on the new addition.
“That’s fantastic. And they’ve put a lot of work into it. Many, many hours have been spent putting this fire truck together and getting the equipment mounted. We couldn’t do it without our volunteers,” they said.
The company looked into buying a new engine. The cost? More than $1 million.
“We’re tickled to have it. Even though it’s old, we like the old,” Townsend said.
The new addition also gives the company the ability to fit into smaller areas, expanding its access to the community.
