Swimmer goes missing in Rehoboth Beach
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A swimmer went missing offshore in Rehoboth Beach on Saturday night.
Rehoboth Beach police responded to the shoreline near Olive Avenue after receiving a report of a missing swimmer. He was described as a black male in his 20s, about 6 feet tall and weighing more than 160 pounds.
The search has been suspended. The incident shocked Dot Anderson, a longtime beach visitor.
“We saw the helicopters circling and circling, and we were wondering what was going on,” she said. “It’s a shame that someone comes to the beach for a relaxing, fun day, and something tragic happens.”
The U.S. Coast Guard, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and Rehoboth Beach Fire Company assisted in the search.
