SU Donates Menstruation Products

Salisbury, Md- Salisbury University is working to limit menstruation poverty through donations to schools and organizations.

Rachael Savage, recycling coordinator at Salisbury University, said, “the average woman will spend approximately $18,000 in her lifetime. And that’s not including if she has daughters or other children in our care.”

Menstruation poverty affects many in our community, and access to feminine care products is limited because they’re simply too expensive.

Savage added, “We’ve donated to Halo. We donate to Hope in downtown Salisbury. We’ve gone out to Courts Berlin and more. Chester County. So we’ve hit Diakonia, Atlantic Club and Sunrise Church.”

Savage added, “We’ve donated to Halo, Hope in downtown Salisbury, Courts Berlin, Chester County, Diakonia, Atlantic Club, and Sunrise Church.”

The price of those products has doubled in five years. That’s why the effort to donate menstruation products across Wicomico and Worcester counties has only just begun.

“In two weeks, we’re heading down to Somerset County. Washington High School will receive a pallet of products. Seton Center, also in Princess Anne, will be receiving several pallets of materials,” Savage said.

Salisbury University officials say it is a privilege to be a partner in their community.

Jason Rhodes, Salisbury University spokesperson, said, “We’re not isolated, and we’re not just a partner in the Wicomico County community, but in Worcester and Somerset counties as well. We’re part of the communities we serve, and this is just another thing we can do to help.”

We are also told that this is a resource that younger students from schools can bring home to their families.
