Somerset Fair Queen completes trifecta
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Somerset County Fair kicked off starting with pageants, featuring some of the county’s brightest stars.
This year, the fair had its first triple-crown winner in the Miss Fair Queen Pageant on Tuesday.
“I feel like I get to inspire others to do the fair pageant and just be role model for them and for my littles that won last night too, so I’m very proud of myself that I was able to become the first trifecta,” said Trinity Sterling, the newly crowned Miss Somerset County Fair Queen.
In the past, Trinity Sterling has taken home the Little Miss and Junior Miss pageant titles at the Somerset County Fair.
On Tuesday, she was able to complete the trifecta by taking home the top spot in the Miss Fair Queen pageant.
“I feel like some people may think, ‘oh pageants are just beauty contests,’ but honestly, they give you so many life skills, like good communication skills, they prep you to be a leader and like I said before, you make a lot of new friendships that could last a lifetime,” said Sterling.
Executive Director and Coordinator for Somerset County Fair Queen Lynne Johnson was able to watch Trinity grow through the pageant process.
“I was actually her director for all three of her titles, she is a beautiful, beautiful young lady now and she was such a fantastic, sweet little girl and it’s been a joy to watch her grow and she’s grown so much through this process,” said Johnson.
Johnson agrees that the lessons learned in pageantry go beyond the crown and sash.
“It’s more about building life skills preparing these girls for their futures, for college, for interviews, we focus a lot on their interviews and their public speaking so they can build these skills to go out and get these jobs and college acceptance that they want,” she said.
The bulk of the Somerset County Fair will begin on Friday.
