Single-vehicle crash leaves one dead in Clayton

CLAYTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a 24-year-old man early Monday morning.

The crash occurred around 3 a.m. on July 15, when a Honda Civic traveling westbound on Sudlers Row failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Blackiston Church Road, police said. The car, which appeared to be speeding, went off the edge of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, a Wilmington man who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding his name pending notification of his family.

The roadway was closed for about three and a half hours while the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated and cleared the scene.
