Shore Up! Offering Energy Efficiency Assistance

(SALISBURY, Md) – Shore Up! is now offering a weatherization assistance program, under the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

Julie Peters, with Shore Up! met with us late Tuesday afternoon about the assistance.

She says The program is geared towards ensuring low income homes are operating with energy efficiency in mind.

Peters added that it helps reduce how much they’re spending on something as simple as keeping their homes cool.

She tells us, “The immediate payoff is lower utility bills. The long term payoff is a healthier environment to live in, a safer environment and safer air to breathe. And just knowing that at the end of the day, your home is going to be as energy efficient as possible…”

The program does come with a couple of hurdles.

Peters says homeowners need to be eligible to receive assistance, and so do their homes.

The types of issues they want to help with can range from a hole in the roof to leaks to other nuisances.

“..If there is an infestation of some sort of past weather, a rodent or insect. If there is a situation where someone in the home is a hoarder and preventing access to the things that we would need to look at…” says Julie.
