Selbyville Man Jailed for 6th DUI – and Heroin – in Lincoln

Luis Rodriguez

SELBYVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested a Selbyville man Tuesday after a welfare check led to his sixth DUI offense and the discovery of heroin in his vehicle, authorities said.

Troopers responded around 2 p.m. July 15 to Dupont Boulevard near Morgan Drive in Lincoln, where they found a silver Lexus RX350 stopped in the median and the driver experiencing what appeared to be a medical emergency, police said in a news release.

The driver, identified as Luis Rodriguez, 65, showed signs of impairment and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Troopers later administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and arrested Rodriguez for driving under the influence after he was discharged, according to police.

A computer check revealed Rodriguez had five previous DUI convictions. During an inventory search of the SUV prior to towing, troopers also found approximately 0.06 grams of heroin, police said.

Rodriguez was taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with sixth-offense DUI, possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid license, and failure to remain in a single lane.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $8,202 secured bond.
