Seaford nonprofit uses basketball to empower youth on and off the court

SEAFORD, Del. – A new summer program in Seaford is blending basketball, academics, and mentorship to support local youth both on and off the court. Focus on the Dream, a nonprofit committed to breaking cycles of poverty and reducing youth violence.

Running from June 4 through August 15, the program serves 50 students ages 10 to 14. Participants attend three days per week, receiving structured basketball training along with personalized academic tutoring and life skills mentoring.

The program targets a critical age group and is structured to close academic gaps through individualized tutoring based on student report cards and assessments. In addition to athletic development, the curriculum emphasizes leadership, resilience, and teamwork.

Focus on the Dream’s approach to holistic development includes academic enrichment, mentorship, and exposure to college and career pathways. The nonprofit supports students from early adolescence through college, offering services such as FAFSA assistance, technology programs, and college readiness workshops.

By providing a structured, safe environment during the summer months, Basketball for Life aims to promote personal growth, build confidence, and empower young people to become leaders in their communities.
