Scared of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge? Regular bridge driver says you shouldn’t be

MARYLAND. – The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is considered by many as one of the scariest bridges in America, but a local driver said it’s not as bad as people think.

Charlie Linton drives people across the bridge for a living and said the over 4-mile-long span of the bridge can be frightening, along with the height and the low guard rails. But as long as you take your time while driving the bridge, you’ll make it across safely.

“I think the bridge is safe. I mean, they maintenance it a lot, they take good care of it, and most if the people that I see stay in their lanes,” said Linton. “That’s the most important thing, is stay in your lane and maintain the speed limit.”

He said one way you can ensure your safety is obeying the posted speed limit, both before getting on the bridge and while on it, because the limit does change.

“As long as you do the speed limit, maintain the safety in your driving and stay in your lane and keep an eye on everybody else, I think it’s perfectly safe and you shouldn’t really worry about it,” said Linton.

If you’re not fully convinced by Linton, there are services out there that will drive you across the bridge for a fee.
