Salisbury University offers a new degree this fall

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University is adding a new degree starting in the fall.

The university is adding biochemistry and molecular biology to its list of majors in an effort to help meet Maryland’s need for careers in life sciences, pharmaceutical research, genetic research and biotech companies.

Professor and Chair of the Science Department Steven Habay said there is strong demand for the degree among prospective students.

“It will bring in more students who are interested in this type of program, and I think it will expand our reputation for excellent undergraduate science,” Habay said. “We definitely have seen strong demand for this major in our prospective students, and there is a very strong demand in the state of Maryland for a more highly technical workforce in the biochemistry and biotechnology sectors.”

Habay added that the new degree will improve enrollment in advanced upper-level courses.
