Salisbury Airport receives $450k in state grant funding

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Airport, referred to as an economic gem by the Wicomico County Executive, has $450k in state grant funneling into it, to begin the first phases of construction of two new hangers.

Executive director of Salisbury Wicomico Economic Development, David Ryan said the new additions will help increase the airport’s value.

“We’ve had a lot of calls from people wanting to construct, and the good news is, our hangers that we have are full, so the next step would be to create new space to construct more hangers, that drive future development,” said Ryan.

The airport is currently home to almost a dozen hangers, both big and small. But airport director, Tony Rudy said there’s always room for expansion.

“There’s been a demand for larger hangers,” said Rudy. “All of our larger hangers have been filled up for many years, even our small hangers are pretty much filled up. The need has always been larger hangers, which will attract the businesses here, at the airport.”

And those business possibilities are endless, according to Rudy.

“It does boost business at the airport; it boosts the economy locally, to attract business in here, depending on the type of business,” said Rudy. “We’re looking at some aviation related ones, but [they] definitely will help out the airport in the long run.”
