Rosenfeld’s Jewish Deli shuts down operations in Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. — Rosenfeld’s Jewish Delicatessen has permanently closed. After eight months in operation, Rosenfeld’s is shutting down its Salisbury location, which opened in November.
The closure follows earlier success at the deli’s other locations in Ocean City, Maryland; Bethany Beach; and Rehoboth Beach.
Owner Warren Rosenfeld said he believes in capitalism and added that success isn’t guaranteed.
“We just were doing two-thirds of the amount of business that we needed to do to stay open,” he said. “We tried some different things like the value dinner menu and the half-sized sandwiches, and it worked for a little while — and then it didn’t.”
Rosenfeld’s is known for its fresh deli meats and legendary Reubens. Rosenfeld said he is the most disappointed by the news and isn’t sure if expansion is the right move at this time.
“I just don’t know if I want to open another one. I’m a little tired of losing money, and at my age, when someone wants to sign a five- or 10-year lease, you have to think about it,” he said. “I’m in my 70s. If it didn’t work out, it didn’t work out. I love Salisbury and love the people — they were so nice to us — but I just can’t stay open here any longer.”
The Bethany Beach and Rehoboth Beach locations will remain open.
