Ocean City Ups Ante for Police Hiring Efforts

OCEAN CITY, Md. — Ocean City is offering a $5,000 signing bonus for police officers who transfer to the Ocean City Police Department from out-of-state agencies, according to the website joinocpd.com.

This is in addition to a previously approved $15,000 signing bonus for officers transferring from other agencies within Maryland. The Ocean City Town Council unanimously approved the $5,000 bonus for out-of-state transfers. The bonuses are intended to help with recruitment and retention efforts.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • In-state lateral hires: A $15,000 signing bonus is offered to officers transferring from another Maryland agency. This bonus is disbursed over a three-year period.
  • Out-of-state lateral hires: A $5,000 signing bonus is offered to officers transferring from other states. This bonus can assist with relocation expenses.
  • Seasonal Police Officer: A $500 hiring bonus is awarded after completing training. A $500 retention bonus is also offered to officers working at least 20 hours during fall special events.

In addition to these bonuses, the OCPD offers a comprehensive benefits package, health insurance, retirement plans, tuition assistance, and a four-day work week for patrol officers.
