Ocean City Beach Patrol reminding beach goers of safety

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Beach Patrol is reminding both locals and visitors to stay safe on the sand.

They urge beachgoers to watch out for rip currents, limited visibility in the water, and beach erosion.

Beach Patrol Capt. Butch Arbin said he wants people to remain vigilant even while on vacation.

“One of those happens to be digging into the sand. In fact, several people die from sand hole collapses,” Arbin said. “The other thing is rip currents. Last year, they were the second-leading cause of death, ahead of things like hurricanes and tornadoes.”

Aspiring Ocean City Beach Patrol members can attend training on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Ocean City Inlet.
