Mace’s Lane Community Center Moving Past Major Hurdles

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – After years of planning, the Masons Lane Community Center in Cambridge is about to enter some of the final steps, and that cutting the ribbon on the center may be closer than people think.

Reverend Keith Cornish, Chairman of the Mace’s Lane Community Center Board, And Boys and Girls Club of Maryland President, Jeff Breslin say great progress is being made on the center, and it will bridge the gap with the original Mace’s Lane school.

Cornish tells us they’re going to,” …not only preserve it, but also to empower new generations, as well as just bringing the old and the new together.”

Breslin says the project scored a major win during the Cambridge City Council Meeting Monday night. It moves them within striking distance of their funding goals, needing only another one and a half million dollars.

He says, “We were fortunate that city council unanimously, unanimously approved the opportunity to acquire the property. And for us, it’s all about sustainability and the city has always been a partner of this project. The city has believed in this project, as have many other partners and funders.”

The Community Center Project has been in the works for over half a decade, and for the Boys and Girls Club, to finally get over the last obstacles will allow them to potentially cut the ribbon in the near future

“You know, it’s exciting because the last mile is always the hardest. But we also know that a lot of folks have wanted to see this project be completed and this club and the Mace’s Lane Community Center to come to life. So we know there are folks out there who want to support; the state has supported since day one, the city has supported…” says Breslin.

If all goes according to plan, the ribbon could be cut as early as next summer.
