Humane Society of Wicomico County, In Need Of Dog Walkers

Wicomico County, Md- The Humane Society of Wicomico County is seeking additional volunteers to help walk its dogs this summer.

Kim Nock, executive director of the shelter, said the organization is fortunate to have trained volunteers, but with local college students away for the summer, there is a noticeable shortage of help.

“It gets really slow for the dog walkers in the summertime because all the college kids go back to school, and we rely on them very heavily,” Nock said. “But people come out every day. We start dog walking at 11 a.m. and finish about a half hour before we close. This helps get the dogs outside, and usually, they get two or three walks a day — if we’re lucky.”

The shelter is currently full of dogs, and Nock encourages the community to consider adopting a new furry companion.

“Now is a great time to pick up a fuzzy best friend,” she added.
