Get a look inside the new Sussex Central High School
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Sussex Central High School is getting ready to debut a brand new school for this upcoming academic year.
WMDT got a look inside the new building as the final touches are being put on the facility.
“I’m excited about the Sussex Central High School experience as a whole,” said Dr. David Carter, Principal of Sussex Central High School. “There are so many different components to a high school and I’m excited to be here for all of it.”
Excitement is in the air as Sussex Central High School gets ready to welcome its students into a brand new building this upcoming school year.
“We want them to feel like they can be proud of the doors they walk through in addition to the people they interact with and the support that they get and I think with the building being as immaculate as it is, we’ll be able to check all those boxes for our students,” said Dr. Carter.
And as the student population at Sussex Central continues to rise, officials say there is no better time for a new building.
“The biggest amenity that we have for the new school is just space,” said Nikolaus Fair, Assistant Principal at Sussex Central High School. “We’ve been operating out of a 1,500 kid school for the last five years and we’ve had a population between 1,800 and 2,000 kids for the last five years, so we’ve been overcrowded.”
Some of the new features include a new gym with a running track, a new library, a lecture hall, and plenty of new classrooms.
“Every teacher is going to have their own classroom which is not something we’ve had for the last five years,” said Fair. “We had about 18 teachers that shared classrooms with other teachers and floated around on a cart.”
School officials say the building is on track to be ready for the first day of classes.
Sussex Central plans to keep students and parents informed through updates on social media, newsletters and the school’s website.
