Dover man arrested, charged with First Degree Rape, Strangulation

DOVER, Del.- The Dover Police Department has arrested Antonio Powell, 36, of Dover, for Rape and strangulation following an incident on Tuesday afternoon.

The investigation began at 2:34 p.m., when Dover Police received a call for a sexual assault at a residence located within the City of Dover.

Officers responded and spoke to the victim, a 72-year-old woman. The ensuing investigation revealed that Powell is known to the victim and had been at the victim’s residence.

While inside, he strangled and sexually assaulted her. The exact location and area of this incident is not being disclosed in an attempt to protect the identity of the victim.

A warrant was obtained for Powell’s arrest, and at 3:33 p.m., a Dover Police Motor Unit Officer took Powell into custody without incident in the area of West Reed Street and South Governors Ave.

Powell was transported to the Dover Police Department, where he was processed and arraigned.

Powell is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
