Dorchester Co. Preparing for County Fair with Caroline County

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – In Dorchester County, they’re preparing for a major tradition with nearby Caroline County. As the two are preparing for their annual county fair.

Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce President, Bill Christopher says that the two counties have been holding this joint county fair for over 20 years.

Plus it’s a big hit for agritourism, especially in keeping the younger attendees engaged

Bill tells us, “Whether it’s, you know, growing fruits and vegetables or having cows or calves or goats or whatever, to have them out at the festival and celebrating that and let them understand the importance and that the community supports the ag community is huge.”

While this county fair is on a much smaller scale than the ongoing Delaware State Fair, Dorchester County tourism is hoping people from across more than the two counties will come out in early August.

“Whether it be Caroline County, Talbot County, Somerset, Worcester, Wicomico. We’re all about partnering with our counties on the shore because the most important thing is to get people on the shore and to be able to promote this entire place,” says Dorchester Tourism Director, Holly Gilpin.

They’re expecting a couple of thousand people to show up for the opening night ceremony.

Dorchester County wants to emphasize how important that agritourism is to enticing kids into a career in agriculture.

“Again, I can’t emphasize enough how important this is for the students and the young people that are considering agriculture as far as their career to understand that there’s a lot of support for that and the need for it in our communities,” says Bill.

The festivities kick off on Wednesday, August 6th, with a ribbon cutting between the Dorchester and Caroline County Chambers of Commerce.

The fair will run through Saturday, August 9th.
