Discover Delmarva: Escape Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md- Escape Salisbury, located downtown, is a great way to challenge your mind and put your detective skills to the test! Owner Andy Kitzrow showed us their latest room theme and offered some advice during our time locked inside. “So when you’re in an escape room, everything is in play. So, whether it’s on the ceiling, the ground, in drawers, in books, hidden compartments, and things.”
I didn’t know where to start, honestly- I felt overwhelmed walking in, but quickly got to work trying to solve some of the clues. Kitzrow tells me, “Our clues are also pretty robust. We have 14 clues to 16 clues per room, so a lot’s going on.” The desk, posters, books, table, every tiny detail in play can be overwhelming, especially when you’re working alone.. Kitzrow highly recommends some help during your visit, so I was undertaking quite the challenge. “The ideal size is six to eight people. I think smaller groups divide and conquer, but then have some group think.”
So the good news for me was I’m the boss! The bad news? If I was wrong, I have no one to blame but myself. I was starting to feel the pressure build up. “So that’s what throws people off is they’re not listening. They’re more talking and yelling, and trying to be in charge rather than a collaborative cooperative effort. It’s more like How do I get out rather than. How do we get out?”
I finally started to make some sound progress on my escape using what was in the room. I used my intuition and focused on the details, leading me to my first key! This unlocked an important step towards my next clue.
We were told every single thing in this room can be a clue. Whether it’s the pictures on the wall, the chemistry set, or books on the table. I’m drawn to astronomy, so we’re going to check out the telescope. I think we might be able to see something out there. And I couldn’t see out of the telescope? Interesting.
Sure enough, I stumbled upon another key helping me progress through the room and unlocking another clue to further my quest to escape. Searching the room back and forth with the clock ticking, the pressure continues to be heightened. Hearing your seconds tick down until it’s too late
